about
ARTICULATE ANIMAL
is the platform for the work of dance artist SUE HAWKSLEY
My creative practice inquires into embodiment, movement & environment. Projects are often collaborative and interdisciplinary, and have been performed internationally in theatre, gallery and academic contexts. I currently work in environmental conservation, and make performance & screen-works exploring the natural world and our relationship to it.
I have performed with Rambert, Philippe Genty, Scottish Ballet and Mantis Dance among many others, in danceworks, puppetry, opera, film and interactive art installations. I hold a PhD in Dance from the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh College of Art), and have extensive experience as a dance educator.
Based in the Adelaide Hills, I live and work on the traditional land of the Peramangk and Kaurna peoples, and pay respects to Elders past, present and future.
